An association between viewing aggression and violence on television and later violent or antisocial behavior has been established in many studies. Children can be exposed to more than 40,000 commercials per year. Researchers examined the content of all morning and afternoon commercials on three children's television channels (the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and the Cartoon Network) for negative content (violent behaviors, disturbing behaviors, negative modeling, and sexual behaviors), positive content (positive role modeling and interactions, encouraging statements, and health benefits), mixed content, and neutral content during a 3-month period in 2006.
