The 2000 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) growth charts are commonly used by pediatricians to assess child growth. Experts from the CDC, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) met to evaluate the 2000 CDC growth charts and the more recent 2006 World Health Organization (WHO) growth charts (http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/en/).
CDC growth charts are based on cross-sectional data for U.S. children. The only exclusion criterion was very low birth weight (no overweight measurements were excluded).
