Since publication of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) clinical guideline for diagnosis and management of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in primary care pediatric practices 10 years ago, more pediatricians are engaged in evaluating and treating children with ADHD. However, the extent to which guideline recommendations are followed is highly variable. Even with the new AAP guideline (JW Pediatr Adolesc Med Nov 16 2011), systematic documentation of diagnostic criteria and behaviors on the basis of parents and teacher reports continues to be a major challenge.
