Management of type 1 diabetes during adolescence is challenging. Investigators at a tertiary care, multidisciplinary diabetes clinic identified patterns of control and predictors of deterioration in control in 150 adolescents (age range, 13–18 years) with type 1 diabetes and at least one parent. Half of the adolescents were female, 86% were white, most had two parents, and mean duration of diabetes was 6 years. Outcome measures (HbA1c and frequency of blood glucose monitoring) were assessed four times over 20 months.
