Using national survey data, researchers examined vaccination trends among U.S. adolescents from 2008 through 2010, focusing on the tetanus toxoid, diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap), the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), and the HPV vaccine.
Among the findings:
Tdap or MCV4 vaccines: About 20% of teens were not up-to-date for Tdap during the study period, while roughly 65% were not up-to-date for MCV4. Parents most commonly reported that they skipped Tdap or MCV4 because the vaccines were not necessary or had not been recommended.
HPV vaccine: About 75% of teenage girls were not up-to-date with HPV immunization in 2010 — and >40% of their parents had no intention of completing the vaccine series. The m…
