This national survey of more than 1700 adolescents (age range, 12-17; 48% female) evaluated whether exposure to sexual content on television is associated with progression in noncoital sexual activity (e.g., breast/genital touching, oral sex) and initiation of intercourse. Telephone interviews at baseline and 1 year later collected information on television viewing history, sexual activity, and demographics. Data were also gathered on various covariates known to affect sexual behavior, such as parental involvement and monitoring, age of friends, and deviant behavior.
