Exercise can reduce breast-cancer risk in postmenopausal women, perhaps in part through a reduction in adipose tissue (see Journal Watch Women’s Health Nov 5 2003). To examine whether physical activity affects the risk for breast cancer by hormone receptor status, investigators prospectively followed more than 36,000 postmenopausal women in the Iowa Women’s Health Study who were stratified into three groups (high, medium, and low) based on self-reported baseline exercise levels.
