Distinguishing migraine or other types of headache from a symptom of preeclampsia in the postpartum period is often difficult. Investigators retrospectively analyzed data from 95 women hospitalized for postpartum headache (onset, 24 hours–42 days after delivery) from 2000 through 2005. A diagnosis of preeclampsia was made in patients with proteinuria and hypertension. Patients who had received regional anesthesia were investigated for spinal headache. Radiologic imaging was performed if neurologic deficits were found on physical examination.
