External anogenital warts (condylomata acuminata) are frustrating for patients, who find them to be painful and aesthetically displeasing. Researchers evaluated the possible benefits of sinecatechins, extracted from green tea, for treating anogenital warts. Patients were randomized to one of two sinecatechin ointment strengths (15%: 96 women, 100 men; or 10%: 100 women, 102 men) or placebo ointment (48 women, 56 men). Patients applied the topical ointment three times daily until warts cleared or for a maximum of 16 weeks. Wart clearance was defined based on the reduction in wart surface area from baseline.
