Since the interruption of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) in 2001, decisions involving risks, benefits, and long-term safety of menopausal hormone therapy have been controversial, and the focus of HT use has shifted to improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and relieving symptoms during the menopausal transition and early menopause. In the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), researchers assessed use and outcomes of HT during a 6-year follow-up of a multiethnic cohort of more than 3000 women who had not used HT for at least 3 months before study entry (mean age: 46 for never-users, 54 for ever-users).
