Adverse outcomes associated with late preterm birth (34–36.6 weeks’ gestation) have received much attention. In a retrospective cohort study of women who presented with preterm labor between 23 and 34 weeks’ gestation and subsequently delivered at 32 weeks or later, researchers assessed risk for adverse neonatal outcomes in preterm (32–33.6 weeks), late preterm (34–36.6 weeks), and term (≥37 weeks) births. Outcome data were evaluated based on two composites of adverse variables (Set 1: acute neonatal morbidities, length of neonatal intensive care unit stay, and healthcare needs before discharge; Set 2: indicators [e.g., neurodevelopmental] associated with longer-term morbidities and persistent use of healthcare resources).
