Beyond monitoring for recurrence, follow-up care in breast cancer survivors provides opportunities to address psychosocial and informational needs. Investigators compared standard hospital clinic visits with telephone interviews conducted by trained nurses during long-term follow-up after primary treatment for breast cancer in 374 British women at low or moderate risk for recurrence. Hospital consultations lasted 10 minutes, were conducted primarily by junior medical staff, and included clinical examinations and confirmation of hormone treatment.
