Pregnancy-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections typically occur in conjunction with systemic infections, wounds (e.g., cesarean and episiotomy sites), or lactation mastitis; moreover, concerns about transmission between mothers and newborns have arisen. Investigators used a simulation model to estimate the epidemiologic effects and economic burden of MRSA in pregnancy as well as the cost-effectiveness of screening and decolonization.
