Use of postmenopausal hormone therapy is associated with risk for urinary incontinence. To determine whether oral contraceptives (OCs) are associated with incontinence risk in premenopausal women, investigators analyzed data from 21,864 women participating in the Nurses’ Health Study II (age range, 37–54) who reported no urinary incontinence in 2001.
In 2003, 749 women reported experiencing urinary incontinence at least weekly. In multivariable analysis, self-reported ever use of OCs was associated with greater likelihood of incident incontinence than was never use (odds ratio, 1.27).
