Depression affects as many as 20% of pregnant women, and the benefits of maternal pharmacologic treatment must be balanced against risks associated with fetal exposure; however, results of previous studies are inconsistent. Investigators analyzed data from the Danish nationwide registry to assess the relation between first-trimester SSRI use (defined as ≥2 prescriptions filled) and prevalence of fetal malformations.
