As assisted human reproduction (AHR) becomes more common, questions persist about the prevalence of birth defects in infants conceived in this way. Investigators used the 2005 Ontario perinatal database to assess the prevalence of birth defects in offspring of patients who underwent ovulation induction (298), intrauterine insemination (173), or in vitro fertilization with or without intracytoplasmic sperm injection (319) compared with 60,170 controls who did not undergo AHR.
