The search for better agents to alleviate menopausal symptoms and to prevent and manage osteoporosis has yielded bazedoxifene (not yet available in the U.S.), a selective estrogen-receptor modulator (SERM). In three industry-supported, randomized, double-blind, controlled trials, researchers evaluated the safety of bazedoxifene in postmenopausal women; in one of these trials, bazedoxifene's efficacy in combination with conjugated estrogens (CEs), termed a “tissue-selective estrogen complex” (TSEC), was studied.
