Use of methamphetamine, an illicit stimulant, is a growing problem in the U.S.; however, relatively little data exist on risk factors for methamphetamine use in pregnancy or on outcomes associated with this substance (although many clinicians can provide anecdotal evidence of its harmful effects). Therefore, investigators conducted a retrospective chart review of 276 women who either self-reported methamphetamine use or had positive drug screens for the drug during pregnancy at a single institution in Phoenix from 2000 to 2006.
