Determining and explaining the causes of stillbirth (fetal death at ≥20 weeks' gestation) can be immensely challenging. Investigators in the Stillbirth Collaborative Research Network (SCRN) are conducting an ongoing population-based study involving 59 hospitals in five geographic regions across the U.S. to look more closely at incidence of, causes of, and risk factors for stillbirth based on a standard protocol (postmortem examination, placental pathology, medical record review, and maternal interviews) and best available clinical and pathologic evidence.
