During the past 20 years, alternatives to hysterectomy for treating women with heavy menstrual bleeding have gained acceptance. To evaluate patient satisfaction with various treatments, investigators conducted a meta-analysis of individual patient data from 30 randomized controlled trials of hysterectomy, endometrial ablation (under direct hysteroscopic visualization [first-generation] or without visualization [second-generation]), and the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS).
