Spontaneous pregnancy loss has been inconsistently associated with subsequent cardiovascular disease. Now, researchers for the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study have followed >11,000 German women (age range, 35–65; mean follow-up, 10.8 years) who had ever been pregnant. Participants reported miscarriage, abortion, and stillbirth histories at study entry and health outcomes every 2 to 3 years. Self-reported myocardial infarctions (MIs) and strokes were confirmed with medical records and death certificate data.
