Heavy menstrual bleeding is common in women with inherited bleeding disorders (e.g., von Willebrand disease, platelet disorders, other clotting factor deficiencies; JW Womens Health Jul 9 2009). Such bleeding in these women can result in anemia and negative effects on quality of life. A major noncontraceptive benefit of the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is its favorable effect on uterine bleeding; however, few studies have addressed use of this device in women with inherited bleeding disorders.
