Violence against women is a worldwide public health issue. In an analysis of data from the 2007 Australian National Mental Health and Well-Being Survey, investigators correlated incidence of four types of gender-based violence (GBV; physical intimate partner violence [IPV], rape, other forms of sexual assault, and stalking) with lifetime prevalence of five types of mental disorders (any disorder, anxiety disorder, mood disorder, substance use, and post-traumatic stress disorder) in 4451 community-dwelling women (age range, 16–85).
