Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects pregnancy outcomes negatively, but most studies have involved women who required assisted reproduction technology (ART) to conceive. In a population-based cohort study, investigators analyzed Swedish patient and birth registry data to determine the extent to which adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with PCOS are attributable to the disorder itself.
A total of 3787 births in women with PCOS were compared with 1,191,336 births in unaffected women. Women with PCOS were more likely to be nulliparous, to be overweight, to require ART to conceive, to be older than 35 at delivery, and to be hypertensive.
