In 2007, updated consensus guidelines for management of abnormal Pap tests were published by the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP; JW Womens Health Nov 29 2007). In previous guidelines, colposcopy was recommended for minimally abnormal cervical cytology, and excisional methods (e.g., loop electrosurgical excision procedure [LEEP]) were recommended for biopsy-confirmed moderate dysplasia.
