Cancer survivors must cope with long-term health effects that include impaired reproductive ability. Advances in fertility preservation have been made for both men and women, but is appropriate information shared with young cancer patients? To address this question, Swedish investigators surveyed a population-based cohort of cancer survivors identified through national registries. Participants received diagnoses from 2003 to 2007 and completed questionnaires in 2010.
In all, 328 women and 156 men participated (age range at diagnosis, 18–45; diagnosis of lymphoma, acute leukemia, testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, or female breast cancer treated with chemotherapy). Fifty-nine percent reported having discussed effects of treatment on fertility…
