Treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) has been associated with excess risk for subsequent preterm birth (e.g., JW Womens Health May 10 2007). In England, women with abnormal cervical cancer screening results are referred to clinics specializing in CIN evaluation (with colposcopy and, if needed, punch biopsy) and treatment (most commonly with loop excision procedures); all clinics and colposcopists are audited every 3 years.
