Because previous studies have suggested that women with endometriosis are at higher obstetric risk than women in the general population, investigators conducted a study of first spontaneous, singleton pregnancies occurring in women who were nulligravid before they underwent surgery for endometriosis. Cases at a single Italian hospital were analyzed retrospectively for several obstetric outcomes. Of the 419 women who were fully assessed, 150 had rectovaginal endometriosis, 100 had ovarian endometriomas only, 100 had peritoneal endometriosis only, and 69 had ovarian endometriomas plus peritoneal lesions. Endometriosis surgery was performed only with mechanical instruments or electrosurgery.
