The loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) has long been a mainstay for management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia despite concerns about obstetric sequelae such as preterm birth (JW Womens Health May 10 2007). Despite its years of use, little is known about the relation between LEEP and failure of cervical dilation, arrest of labor, and cesarean delivery. In a retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed mode of delivery in pregnancies beyond 20 weeks' gestation in women who had undergone LEEP, cervical punch biopsy, or cytology screening only (598, 552, and 588 women, respectively, between 1996 and 2006).
