Neurological Development in 2-Year-Old Children of Subfertile Couples

Longer time to pregnancy was associated with minor neurological dysfunction.

Children conceived by assisted reproductive technologies are at excess risk for preterm birth and low birth weight. Previous studies showed that neurological development at 2 years of age was not affected by in vitro fertilization (IVF), controlled ovarian stimulation (COS), or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Now, the same investigators have sought to determine if time to pregnancy (TTP; defined as the start of timed unprotected intercourse to conception) — a surrogate for the severity of subfertility — is associated with neurological status in 2-year-old offspring.
