Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic, inflammatory, idiopathic disorder that typically occurs in middle-aged adults. LP is uncommon in children, and some believe it is more severe in this population, but data are scarce.
Investigators reviewed the records of a university-based LP clinic at an urban hospital in India. Of 1684 patients treated over a 14.5 year period, 316 (19%) were children aged 14 years or younger (166 boys). Mean disease duration was 11 weeks (range 2–468). There was no history of significant medication intake prior to onset of LP. Family history of LP was present in almost 4%.
