Patients with an incomplete conventional colonoscopy often undergo computed tomographic (CT) colonography or barium enema to complete visualization of the colon. Recently, several studies have evaluated the use of capsule colonoscopy to complete conventional examinations that failed to reach the cecum. However, the evidence remains inconclusive.
In the current study, investigators in Spain described a series of 34 patients with incomplete conventional colonoscopies who underwent capsule colonoscopy on a different day. Bowel cleanliness was judged as excellent or good in 22 patients (65%) at capsule examination.
