Dolutegravir, the investigational once-daily integrase inhibitor in late-stage development, has demonstrated substantial efficacy and safety in treatment-naive patients (NEJM JW HIV/AIDS Feb 11 2013 and May 7 2012). Now, researchers report results of the industry-sponsored, phase III, randomized, double-blind SAILING study, which compared dolutegravir with raltegravir in 715 treatment-experienced, integrase inhibitor–naive patients with virologic failure.
