Society typically incarcerates perpetrators of sexual abuse, but they may also be directed to obtain treatment for their abusive tendencies, and some prison sentences require “successful” treatment before release from incarceration. But what treatments are successful? The researchers conducting this meta-analysis found only eight treatment studies with moderate or lower risk of bias and adequate design, only three of which were randomized, controlled trials.
