The article “Dabigatran Disappoints in Patients with Mechanical Heart Valves” was missing information about the study design that could lead to misinterpretation of the results. The second paragraph has been amended to read as follows (addition in italics):
“The trial was halted early because of excess thromboembolic and bleeding events in the dabigatran group; the final study cohort consisted of 252 patients with mechanical valves (aortic, 68%; mitral, 28%; both, 4%) randomized in a 2:1 ratio to dabigatran (168) or warfarin (84). In both groups, approximately 4% of patients did not receive a study drug.”
We apologize for the omission.
