Despite the rising use of donor oocyte cycles in U.S. assisted reproductive technology (ART), information about perinatal outcomes has been sparse. To evaluate trends and outcomes from 2000 to 2010, investigators analyzed data from the National ART Surveillance System encompassing >95% of all ART cycles performed.
The number of donor oocyte cycles increased from about 11,000 to 18,000, largely because of increasing use of ART (as the percentage of donor oocyte cycles only rose from 10.8% to 11.5%). Mean ages of donors and recipients remained stable at 28 and 41 years. The proportion of donor cycles resulting in good perinatal outcome (i.e., a singleton live-born infant delivered at ≥37 weeks and weighing ≥2500 g) increased from 18% to 24%. T…
