Suicide risk factors include current depression, impulsivity, and stressful life events. These researchers prospectively examined the occurrence and timing of suicide attempts month by month over 2 years in 415 patients with lifetime major depression (301 with comorbid borderline personality).
Being in a depressive episode significantly increased the risk for suicide or an attempt (odds ratios: same month, 4.83; next month, 2.40).
