Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) are the most frequent cutaneous lymphoma. Almost half of CTCLs are mycosis fungoides (MF). The typical immunophenotype is a CD4+ helper/inducer T-cell proliferation; however other immunophenotypes have been described. The significance of immunophenotypic switch in CTCL progression is unknown.
In this retrospective study of three cases of CTCL, an immunophenotype switch occurred in different lesions of the same clone over time. One case was classified as MF; the absence of significant epidermotropism in the other two led to diagnosis of primary cutaneous peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL, NOS).
