In a review of a London out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) registry, researchers report outcomes for 206 adults with ST-elevation who had return of spontaneous circulation and were transported directly to the catheter laboratory at one of the city's Heart Attack Centers. All patients arrived within 125 minutes after the initial emergency call (median, 63 minutes).
Two thirds of patients survived to hospital discharge and nearly all (98%) of these patients were alive at 30 days, with 97% remaining alive at one year. Survivors were more likely to be younger (59 vs. 68 years), to have had a witnessed arrest with initial rhythm of ventricular fibrillation or tachycardia, and to have had shorter out-of-hospital times.
