ACTG trial 5202 has been hailed as one of the most influential clinical trials of the modern antiretroviral therapy era (NEJM JW HIV/AIDS Oct 3 2011). Almost 2000 participants were randomized in a 2×2 factorial, partially blinded design to receive one of four regimens: efavirenz or ritonavir-boosted atazanavir, with either tenofovir/FTC or abacavir/3TC.
