Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is used to diagnose and treat certain problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts by way of an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure. Infections with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are on the rise and are proving to be very difficult to treat. Might some such infections be related to ERCP?
