It is hoped that the Affordable Care Act will make it easier to get healthcare as more people obtain medical insurance. Using data from a national telephone survey of a representative sample of U.S. physicians who provide outpatient care, researchers analyzed changes from 2005–2006 to 2009–2010 in the percentages of physicians in various specialties who accept insurance (mean of annual respondents, 1250).
Psychiatrists (5.5% of the sample) were significantly less likely than other specialists to accept private noncapitated insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid.
