The HIV continuum-of-care analysis is becoming a standard tool to monitor care objectives. Researchers recently evaluated HIV care outcomes among individuals in Georgia with HIV infection newly identified during 2010, focusing on the relation between disease stage at diagnosis and the likelihood of viral suppression.
During 2010, 2921 new HIV infections were diagnosed among individuals in Georgia aged ≥13 years. Of those with known disease stage at diagnosis, 16% had stage 1 disease, 25% had stage 2, and 28% had stage 3 (i.e., CD4 counts ≥500 cells/mm3, 200–499 cells/mm3, and <200 cells/mm3, respectively).
