To determine complication and mortality rates for obese trauma patients, researchers reviewed records for nearly 150,000 patients older than 16 years who were admitted to 28 level I and II trauma centers in Pennsylvania between 2000 and 2009. Patients were categorized as underweight if weight was <1st percentile for the study population (<110 lb for men and <85 lb for women) and obese if weight was >75th percentile (≥210 lb for men and ≥180 lb for women). Data on body-mass index were not available.
