No comparative studies have established the ideal duration of oral antibiotic treatment for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) among children in economically developed populations. Recommendations for nonsevere CAP vary, ranging from 3 to 14 days. Now, researchers in Israel have conducted a single-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to explore this issue. Unlike studies performed in developing countries, this trial involved a combination of clinical signs, laboratory findings, and chest x-rays for diagnosis of CAP.
