Originally used only as adjuvant therapy after initial treatment, aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are also effective in lowering incidence of invasive breast cancer in women with excess risk. In an industry-supported Canadian trial, healthy postmenopausal women (mean age, 62) were randomized to exemestane or placebo for ≤5 years. Menopause-specific quality-of-life (QoL) assessment (e.g., vasomotor symptoms) was performed at baseline, 6 months, and annually thereafter.
