Investigators assessed the duration and characteristics of postconcussive symptoms in patients aged 11 to 22 years who presented to a pediatric emergency department with isolated blunt head injury during a 1-year period. Patients with Glasgow Coma Scale scores <13, concomitant traumatic injuries, developmental delay, or intentional trauma were excluded. Symptoms were included in the analysis if they started after the injury.
Among 235 patients (mean age, 14 years) with a diagnosis of concussion, the most common presenting physical symptoms were headache (85%), fatigue (64%), and dizziness (61%).
