Meningitis is a devastating infection that requires immediate diagnosis and prompt administration of antibiotics to prevent unfavorable outcomes. Until recently, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Listeria monocytogenes were the pathogens most often implicated.
