When administered in-hospital, ticagrelor, a direct platelet inhibitor, may offer benefit in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing early invasive treatment. The ATLANTIC trial evaluated whether ticagrelor administered in the prehospital setting would further improve benefit.
In this manufacturer-funded, randomized, double-blind trial, 1862 patients from 13 countries received ticagrelor (180-mg loading dose, followed by 90-mg twice daily) either in the ambulance or in the cath lab.
