As drug resistance to Helicobacter pylori grows, failure rates of standard therapeutic approaches are increasing. Another potential reason for treatment failure is presence of a comorbidity that causes difficulty in fighting infections. To determine the effect of diabetes on successful treatment of H. pylori infection, investigators performed a meta-analysis of studies reporting H. pylori eradication rates in patients with and without diabetes.
A comprehensive literature search identified eight articles, only one of which was designed to evaluate diabetes as a factor for treatment success.
